BBA in Finance

FINA Program is comprehensive and offers many elective courses for students to develop specialties in specific areas of finance. Important topics covered in the program include investment analysis, portfolio management, corporate finance, derivative securities, financial markets and institutions, financial accounting, and international finance. The curriculum helps to prepare our graduates in the examinations for professional qualifications such as CFA, CFP, CAIA, FRM and PRM.

Apart from business related knowledge, students will also need a wide range of skills and competencies to succeed in an increasingly competitive business environment.  Hence, FINA program has developed a required activity-based course, FINA 3001, to help students improve their competitive edge.  You may click here to see the details of the course.

Our program offers many elective courses for students to develop specialties in specific areas of finance. The program is also flexible enough to accommodate students’ interest in choosing other disciplines for additional majors and minors. On average, more than 70% of FINA students graduate with double majors each year. Second majors include Accounting, Communication, Economics, Information System, Operation Management, Marketing and Management.

To graduate from FINA program, students are required to complete the following requirements within 4 years of normal study time frame and follow the student pathway:

For students admitted to HKUST in 2022-23

For students admitted to HKUST in 2021-22

For students admitted to HKUST in 2020-21

For students admitted to HKUST in 2019-20

School Requirements are to strengthen students' business acumen in all business-related disciplines including Accounting, Economics, and Information Systems. Meanwhile University Common Core and English Language Requirements (36 credits) provide a broad and well-rounded education to students by allowing them to explore various topics of their interest in the areas of humanities, social analysis, science and technology, quantitative reasoning, arts, English communication, Chinese communication, and healthy lifestyle. FINA Program Requirements consist of required and elective courses. The required courses provide solid foundations in finance to our students who will be ready to apply theories into practice. Meanwhile, the electives provide flexibility to help students strengthening their areas of interest in finance.

Students will also need to take additional free elective(s) to reach the total 120-credit university requirement. The free elective(s) can be any courses offered by any department.

Our students can also declare an additional major or minors. Available minor programs include, but not limit to, Actuarial Mathematics, Mathematics, Big Data Technology, and Information Technology. Please see the full list of minor programs here.
