Industry Experience

Professor James Zhang is an experienced entrepreneur and investor in both US and greater China. Currently, Professor Zhang is Chief Investment Officer of Great Eagle Holdings, and a Venture Partner of the GRC Fund and Venture University. Prior, Professor Zhang was a founding partner of Formation 8, a Silicon Valley based venture capital firm with over $1B under management and early backer of unicorns like Oculus VR, Wish.com, Oscar Health, and Blend Labs. Before co-founding Formation 8, Professor Zhang was a Venture Partner at Softbank China Venture Capital and at Khosla Ventures, two of the most distinguished venture capital firms in greater China and US, respectively. As a biotechnologist, Professor Zhang was a co-founder of Modular Bioscience, BioConsortia and Mendel Biotechnology which are all based in Silicon Valley. Notable investments include LanzaTech, Oculus VR, Wish.com, Rancher Labs, etc.
